diary of an unhappy uterus | part five.

Endometriosis Adenomyosis

I feel like I’m on Tinder but for Gynae’s. Online profile looks good, impressive qualifications and then I meet them in person and it’s kind of just ‘meh’.

I think it’s a big case of ‘it’s not you, it’s me (and my unhappy uterus)’.

After being prescribed Visanne with my last Gynae, which was the worst experience (Part 04), I decided to try my luck with a new one. I had met him once before, during my last hospital visit, and I really liked his approach. After receiving my referral he fast tracked my appointment and I got to see him way sooner than I anticipated, which was such a relief.

So on Monday off we went. I brought my partner, Marcus, along, as he is definitely just as much affected by this disease as I am. The Gynae was amazing. We laughed a lot, which is good because I think if I didn’t laugh I would have cried, and he gave me so much information to check out and read. Probably the best thing was that he didn’t give me fake promises. He told me my pain would be with me forever, and our goal was rather to reduce the pain, then to cure it. Although this sounds somewhat morbid and dark, I was actually rather relieved, as I am tired of getting my hopes up only to feel the familiar pain again.

He recommended getting a Laprascopy and Mirena inserted. We’re still deciding on dates, but it will be between February and April of this year. He also gave me things to do in the mean time. Two websites he told us to check out were Explain Pain and the Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia as well as recommending that I start seeing a Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist. I really liked the way he gave us so many ways to try and start beating this illness. It wasn’t a case of ‘take this medication and your pain will disappear’, which I have been told in the past.

I’m really hoping this is a start of a new chapter, so hopefully I won’t have to re-activate my Gynae-Tinder for a while ❊
